Color Tour by Canoe: Susquehanna, Delaware, and Pawtuxet Rivers

Driving between Michigan and Rhode Island to visit Rey at his place near Providence is no small thing. If straight non-stop driving was easy it would only take 12.5 hours to cover 800 miles and pass through Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and finally Rhode Island. (Can't cut through Canada, right now, eh? COVID travel restrictions and all, eh?) So, why not make a proper trip of it and plan to drive in smaller chunks and get some paddling in while on the way?

StringGirl suggested to take the Canoe and Bike along for a Road Trip to Rhode Island

After leaving home ridiculously late on a Wednesday afternoon, StringGirl and I overnighted near the Pennsylvania Wilds (in the car at the rest stop, not so fun). First thing the Thursday morning they found an easy canoe access to the Susquehanna at the Shady Nook Canoe Launch, just south of Williamsport, PA & the Shamokin Dam, for some relatively still water paddling.

The fog made for a gloomy start
Several river islets provided areas for exploration and peaceful paddling

After a short morning exploring the Susquehanna, the canoe went back on the Subaru and we made our way further east and looking for a reasonable place to camp Thursday night. Eventually settling on the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and the river access camping near Bushkill.

Better hurry and find camp before it is too dark

The serious paddling came up once we made it to Rhode Island. The lower Pawtuxet River provided a reasonable opportunity to take a longer drift along several miles of the river where we could easily leave the car at the end of the drift after we biked to the beginning of the run.

Rey leads the way downstream
At launch, around 4:30PM the light was brilliant, weather perfect, and river beautiful. Off we went, a little under equipped after the longish bike ride just to arrive at the launch site and dodging traffic amid some messy construction closures.

From the Pontiac Launch one can choose to go upstream for about 0.8 miles or drift downstream. I had made the upstream run the day before. That left downstream for our goal together. Enough Blah blah blah, just pictures from here on out.

Golden Hour, indeed

Crossing Under Interstate I-95, not scary at all (Yikes it was dark in there)

We just thought this looked cool, underneath I-95

GeoCaching is a global game for users of GPS devices. A global treasure hunt with millions of hidden locations, and a multinational following. www.geocaching.com  is where you can go to play as well. I have placed my first in Zurich. It is a mystery cache, so the players will have to locate clues along the way to solve a puzzle for the location. View Larger Map  Puls ? How many films play here? Moonrise Kingdom, a cozy craft beer bar in Tokyo-Shinjuku

Craft Brewing is not what normally comes to mind when people ask about Japan. They'll ask if you like raw fish (there is more to Japanese cuisine than Sashimi or Sushi), or they'll comment about Sake (there is more than just rice wine in Japan); but if you look, you will definitely find some. Our recent trip to Tokyo, this April just after the Sakura had been swept away by rain :-( we were able to find a perfectly suitable refuge for the Craft Beer Lover.  Moonrise Kingdom(via their Instagram) StringGrrl with one of the NEIPA/Hazy IPA on tap from Japanese Craft Breweries As a treat, the owners shared an American Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing out of Colorado Local ExPat who gave up their stool to make room for StringGrrl and Kam Carryout beer from Kyoto Brewing Company, Vertere

EYWTKAMABIWRTS

everything you wanted to know about my accident but I wasn't ready to share  (u pdated 28th February. Done, gone home, Scroll to see more ) Here's the lowdown since curiosity abounds: 1) NO, I didn't have a skiing accident. I resent the implication. I owned that fucking Hill . (Family Friendly video) 2) It was a sled 🛷 . It's not an extreme sport. It's called a Rodelbahn (toboggan road) and is considered fun for the whole family. Sebastian supplied the sleds/toboggans, and after a full morning on the mountain skiing. We planned to use the few remaining hours of lift access to run the Rodelbahn. Totally reasonable. 3) The run isn't like a luge or bobsled but a trail down reasonable slopes (switchbacks adjacent to a green dot, blue square ski run) but maybe a bit narrower. Rodelbahn at Nauders 4) I think I over-steered at the exact wrong time and was catapulted into the trees, and down a steep slope, bounced off many trees, broke a few d...
