Diwali feast at ESI Group Detroit (catered by Saffron)

Chana Masala and Chicken 65  StringGirl stayed home today and missed a lovely luncheon feast offered by management at the Self-Proclaimed-Die-Experts (though now a Virtual Reality Evangelist) new place of employment. Instead Mr Hops Joe (Hopfn Sepp) attended in her place. You might remember Hops Joe from earlier posts and his visits to  Pilsn ,  Prague ,   Detroit ,   Seattle  just to mention a few. Chicken Tikka and Chicken Tikka Masala   Diwali is a harvest festival and festival of lights. Recognized as a time to celebrate and hope for succes of light over darkness, good over evil, true wealth over transient wealth. Mixed Vegetable Masala and Chicken Makhani (butter chicken)  The food was so tasty that we forgot to take more pictures to capture the rest of the office as they enjoyed (many for the first time) this abundant collection of tasty food. Being able to join in this celebration was certainly a moment for the true wealth of...

Johnny Noodle King

The exterior of Johnny Noodle King in a very modest part of town In the shadow of the ambassador bridge this area has yet to catch up to the kind of resurgence going on in nearby Corktown. However, with the amount of demolition and clearing of old buildings and the ever looming potential of another bridge in the area that may change. The interior is completely Hipster Chic As I was only there for a quick bite before having to head to Comerica Park for training on operating the concessions (doing it as a fundraiser for the school chior and drama programs), I only had time for one simple bowl of Ramen. I went for the Shoyu which seemed to be the most like any classic ramen option. Ordered it with the Pork Belly (Chasu). The Shoyu Ramen For a noodle joint like this the speed of service for the ramen was not bad. The place was empty at the time with only 4 other patrons when I entered. All of whom appeared to have already ordered. One large stock pot was visible from t...

So long Eric, thanks for the memories (Flat Luke)

It's been a great few weeks traveling around with Eric. I've been to many places: + Rotterdam and Amsterdam + Dortmund, Germany + East Paris, Ohio + Detroit, Michigan Eric is mailing me back to my family along with a DVD with tons on photos of our trip, and my own VanGogh.

Flat Luke sees the world: Day One

In the absence of StringGirl and Amber who have since gone on an un-chaperoned walkabout, The Self-Proclaimed-Die-Expert has been forced to travel solo. This changed recently when he received in the mail a simple envelope with some rather important instructions.  (see below) Flat Luke was sent for me to care for and help to see a bit more of the world. And so he shall. I am just getting ready to fly off to Europe. I have to spend some time getting all his travel documents in order but hopefully I am able to finish in time. The pictures are captioned by Flat Luke. Eric is helping him with the posting to the Blog. " This is the letter I wrote to Eric to explain my request.. " " Here I am with 3D Luke and the rest of the 1st grade class. " " Eric is taking me to Europe. I am small and flat so I can fly for free. " "This is Eric's house, in Michigan. already I have travelled far from home, but will go even further."
