Canoes then Brews in Rhode Island & Massachucetts

Central Falls, Rhode Island StringGrrrl's siblings live in Rhode Island, presumably to maximize distance from the 'rents in Michigan. Just outside of Providence we found Central Falls and the Blackstone river, providing a nice morning paddle with the opportunity to visit some local breweries.  Below Central Falls, no idea how to access the water here Graffitti artists have some game around here :-) A quiet spot to pause and brew coffee Just below the reservoir dam, riffles and current halted attainment Many old industrial sites pepper the riverbank Blackstone River Greenway Alternate Continuum (Barrel Aged Saison) & Greenway (NE IPA session) Mordax (NE IPA) & Coarse Woody Debris (Saison)   Oops! I accidentally brought some home

Moonrise Kingdom, a cozy craft beer bar in Tokyo-Shinjuku

Craft Brewing is not what normally comes to mind when people ask about Japan. They'll ask if you like raw fish (there is more to Japanese cuisine than Sashimi or Sushi), or they'll comment about Sake (there is more than just rice wine in Japan); but if you look, you will definitely find some. Our recent trip to Tokyo, this April just after the Sakura had been swept away by rain :-( we were able to find a perfectly suitable refuge for the Craft Beer Lover.  Moonrise Kingdom(via their Instagram) StringGrrl with one of the NEIPA/Hazy IPA on tap from Japanese Craft Breweries As a treat, the owners shared an American Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing out of Colorado Local ExPat who gave up their stool to make room for StringGrrl and Kam Carryout beer from Kyoto Brewing Company, Vertere

Michigan Breweries July 2022 tour

Craft Brewing is booming to the point where most major cities have multiple microbreweries, brew-pubs, craft beer specialty bars, and larger nationwide distributed hometown beers. Michigan claims a major part of that revolution as Michigan's own Bells and Founders have built global followings (it is not uncommon to find Bells or Founders in bars in Europe, Asia, and Latin America (I have not personally been to Africa, Australia, or Antarctica to verify ubiquity, but it has to be close).  This July StringGrrl and Eric did their damnedest to hit as many Michigan Breweries as we could. From Traverse City down to Saugatuck we hit the following: Filling Station, Traverse City, MI Rare Bird, Traverse City, MI Right Brain, Traverse City, MI Odd Side Ales, Grand Haven, MI Horrocks Tavern, Grand Rapids, MI Big Lake Brewing, Holland, MI In Traverse City, a Brewery tour by canoe, kayak, or SUP (stand-up paddleboard) is pretty easy to try difficult in execution if only because on the day we tr...

Suitelife at State Farm Arena: Lofts

By the grace of the Georgia World Congress and SME, we were invited to attend a game between the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knickerbockers. It was our first time to be in the State Farm Arena, formerly the Philips Arena. Built on the site of the old Omni, it is a relatively new arena with all the bells and whistles when it comes to suites and boxes.  The lofts  are a less exclusive suite option designed with privacy in mind, but without being cut off from other fans. In the loft itself there is room for for 8 to 12 guests, with a standing table and monitor in the space. The rear of the loft is open to a more communal area with all-inclusive, premium dining area shared by all Lofts guests. The lofts as envisioned by State Farm Arena management. Source : https://transformation.hawks.com There was hot and cold entrees available, salads, sweets, and other goodies at the buffet. Beer and Soda are included, but mixed drinks and wine was cash bar. We missed the chanc...
