StringGirl and Amber in Social
Birmingham Michigan is a suburb of Detroit just off of Woodward Avenue (M1) , honestly we rarely eat there. But as our colleague and his wife are spending their year in the US slumming in B-ham we thought we should have a few of our team meals closer to his home to introduce them more to their long-short term home.

The dining room
Social is kind of new (I had a hard time knowing where it was as this used to be "Tokyo Sushi" for quite some time, and is still listed as the restaurant at this address (and mapped with Streetview).

Mixology at Social is good, with better than average selection of top shelf liquor
I was pleased to arrive early and find that the rest of our group decided that we should have some cocktails. The bar at Social is well stocked with good and great liquor. They had good whiskey, gin, and in-bar infused vodkas. Their
house cocktails were pretty imaginative without taking it too far. Classic delivery with some novel twists.
“I’ll Have Another” woodford reserve bourbon, mint, lime, simple syrup
“Berry Sanders” social infused blueberry, blackberry and raspberry vodkas, sweet tea and lemonade

Knockout Pinot
One of the guys from the office, who we never expected to be so "cultured", is a wine spender and steered us toward a fine bottle of Pinot. Belle Glos "Clark and Telephone", was a winner. Fortunately we got to order it before the boss decided to wonder what everything was costing. Not a cheap bottle that will cost you closer to $40 retail, the restaurant had it a $80. The sales guy admitted that he bought a case of this, and brings it out to eat occasionally, and has the restaurant cork it for them. From the looks of it the rest of the
wine list should please as well.

Very blurry pic of the Wedge Salad
For
salads we split a few different salads with the rest of the table. The Wedge and the Kale salads. Both of the salads were outstanding (for rabbit food). The Kale was well balanced with sweet noted from the raisins, savory parmesan, sour pickled onions and vinaigrette; while the trendy perfecta was scored for the Quinoa and Kale. The Wedge was a good as one could expect from a shallowly disguised bacon and blue cheese delivery mechanism. Just enough roughage to assuage the guilt brought on by the bacon and blue cheese.
Wedge iceberg, cucumber, tomato, bacon, mushroom, radish, navy beans, crispy onion, blue cheese, buttermilk ranch dressing
Kale quinoa, parmesan, raisins, pine nuts, pickled onion, rice wine vinaigrette

Scallops are out of this world
On the
menu they had a sea scallop appetizer which was so good we talked them into preparing an entree sized portion for us. We finished all they had that night with four of us opting for the scallops. Good thing though they ran out of creamed corn, so two of us had to have ours prepared differently. Borrowing from the Barramundi skillets preparation. The Barramundi would have been outstanding as well, if the rest of it's trimmings can be taken as any indication.
Scallops creamed corn, tomato-bacon jam, cornbread streusel
Barramundi Skillet crispy noodles, capers, olives, spicy tomato, lemon

Two enthusiastic thumbs up for Social.
