Diners (strangers) enjoying their dinner and wine |
D-Vino is a set of nice little wine bars sprinkled around Zurich. With locations at Limmatplatz (near the Langstrasse), Bahnhofstrasse (near the main station), and Seefeld (near Höschgasse tram stop). The offer a reasonable list of wines at a cost not unheard of in Zurich. Ranging from 7.50CHF-10CHF depending on the varietal. They have a list of Warm and Cold dishes as well as some Tapas.

As for wine? I had the following:
- Tempranillo Venta Mazarrón Spanien 2009 7.50 CHF
- Amarone Montezovo della Valpolicella DOC Italien 2009 7.80 CHF
I had never had an Amarone before and was very pleased with this wine. My boss-the more experienced sommelier- said that he too was pleased even impressed with the Amarone. Usually not sold along side affordable wines Amarone is usually priced at the upper end of the wines offered, and rarely by the glass. Having a very unsophisticated palate as I do, I can't tell you much about the wine. It like any amarone has LOTS of fruit, not too "barrique" (not much wood), with the earthy raisinette quality--as the wine his made from grapes that have been dehydrated similar to raisins. However, if not careful you can find batches and vintages where the fruit may have gotten moist intermittently during the drying procss and results in a moldy tasting product.
The Tempranillo was ok, though I won't say remarkable, since by the time I write this post I have fully forgotten about it.

They had a wide selection of bottles, but since there were only two of us drinking we only sampled the one wine. The servers there were excellent for their advice on wine. Our server noted as she poured the bottle, that it seemed a little cool still, and that we would definitely benefit from letting it breath and come up to temp. That it will bloom much more in flavor if we are patient. She was quite right of course and the wine was very nice for less that 40 CHF in Zurich.
