F.I.R.S.T.  Robotics Competition teams gathered in Centerline MI for the 2014 kickoff of the competitive season.  The Gearheads of Grosse Pointe were there again this year. Threw together this little video montage of their matches. Yes, some of them they are on the Blue Alliance and in other shots they are Red. See if you can spot "Howie". My employers saw fit to gift the team and their sponsors at the Grosse Pointe North Parents club with a number of Laptops that they used for CAD, Controls programming, and tele-driving their Bot this year.

World's Best Ski Runs: 100 to 1 As it happens I can only claim 3 on this list. No 60, Curnius, Laax, Switzerland   Laax -- long runs, high quality. Pro skier Chris McCormick cites No 60 as one of his favorites. "This is because of how long the run is, but every feature is of really high quality," he says. Watch out for: Sudden changes in grade. Rating: Red LOOONNNNNG runs some of them. On the day we were there we skied down through 3 distinct thermal zones. Up near the top of one run we start just above 2400m and ski down to 1600m.  At the top is very crisp powder and pack powder, toward the middle we got into some crud, corduroy, and corn snow. The very bottom was like skiing on a slurpee. Ride two lifts back up on and right back into the pack powder. This bowl is nearly 250 degrees skiable. The Filling Station Feeling a little nostalgic for a Mr. Fables Burger and Rings during a drive back from Chicago to Grand Rapids. My colleague who lives in Comstock Park was kind enough to tell me that while Mr. Fables is long gone, you can still get a "Mr. Fabulous" at the filling station. GAME OVER, Take my money, I am there. The Mr Fabulous and Fables Onion Rings  The Mr. Fabulous burger, is a deluxe two patty burger topped with cheese, onion, tomato, olives and "secret sauce".
