Mama Africa, Zurich: Review

As summer fully winds down into Autumn one longs for something new, something fresh, warm and distracting from the grayness that is Zurich in fall. Dinner at Mama Africa is just the ticket.
Mama Africa located in the trending area of Zurich-City-West (Kreis 5). With vibrant decor and flavorful foods, Let Mama Africa chase away the Zurich City Blues.  We went there with a large group of folks from the office, 14 people. They were ready and able to accommodate us all at in the restaurant comfortably and seemingly without taking over the entire dining room.
The appetizer plate
The menu at Mama Africa can seem a little daunting with many dishes, even if you have good Swiss German vocabulary. As with any deeply ethnic restaurant, the spices and combinations might not be what you expect. The cuisine is South African in style. Chicken, Beef, Prawns have starring roles in the Entrees while some more exotic meats will make appearances in the starters (Vorspeisen or appetizers); such as Crocodile and Springbok. Three different "Africaans" fritters round out the starters; with chicken, beef, and beans. Like African "Hush Puppies" these were also delish with a selection of sauces for dipping.

To keep our lives simple we ordered "Mamas Table" where they would simply deliver to our table a bit of everything. A sampler platter of the starters as well as Chicken Peri Peri, Boerewors (Boar sausage), Springbok Spiess (Kabob of Springbok), Umngqusho (African Polenta), Fried Geelrys - Gelber Reis (Fried rice) , Chakalaka-Gemüse (tomato peppers with spices and herbs).

At roughly $60/person (54 Swiss Francs) the meal is a relative bargain in the Zurich way of thinking.

It was my second trip to Mama Africa and highly enjoyable at that. When you are ready to eat something different to lighten up the mood, give Mama Africa a try.

Fabrizio gives a US-Michigan geography lesson, you can always tell a non-Michigan resident if they fail to tell you where they live in this manner. He is pointing roughly to Detroit area

Alan is surprised to see StringGirl at dinner, Lothar is not impressed

Jeff, StringGirl, and Amber are impressed as Xavi carries Fabrizio home

Moonrise Kingdom, a cozy craft beer bar in Tokyo-Shinjuku

Craft Brewing is not what normally comes to mind when people ask about Japan. They'll ask if you like raw fish (there is more to Japanese cuisine than Sashimi or Sushi), or they'll comment about Sake (there is more than just rice wine in Japan); but if you look, you will definitely find some. Our recent trip to Tokyo, this April just after the Sakura had been swept away by rain :-( we were able to find a perfectly suitable refuge for the Craft Beer Lover.  Moonrise Kingdom(via their Instagram) StringGrrl with one of the NEIPA/Hazy IPA on tap from Japanese Craft Breweries As a treat, the owners shared an American Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing out of Colorado Local ExPat who gave up their stool to make room for StringGrrl and Kam Carryout beer from Kyoto Brewing Company, Vertere

EYWTKAMABIWRTS

everything you wanted to know about my accident but I wasn't ready to share  (u pdated 28th February. Done, gone home, Scroll to see more ) Here's the lowdown since curiosity abounds: 1) NO, I didn't have a skiing accident. I resent the implication. I owned that fucking Hill . (Family Friendly video) 2) It was a sled 🛷 . It's not an extreme sport. It's called a Rodelbahn (toboggan road) and is considered fun for the whole family. Sebastian supplied the sleds/toboggans, and after a full morning on the mountain skiing. We planned to use the few remaining hours of lift access to run the Rodelbahn. Totally reasonable. 3) The run isn't like a luge or bobsled but a trail down reasonable slopes (switchbacks adjacent to a green dot, blue square ski run) but maybe a bit narrower. Rodelbahn at Nauders 4) I think I over-steered at the exact wrong time and was catapulted into the trees, and down a steep slope, bounced off many trees, broke a few d...
