Located in the Western lower peninsula of Michigan is a treasure for the the Arts. For the past 46 years Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp has welcomed gifted students to participate in their summer camp program specifically for the Arts. Since the first session in 1966 more than 300,000 gifted musicians, singers, actors and dancers have braved the summers woods in the Manistee National Forrest for two weeks at a time, to meet other students--ranging from elementary to high school, performing both for themselves and the public, and otherwise being kids in camp.
StringGirl and the ladies at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp-Cabin Graham |
This was StringGirls first visit to Blue Lake. Located just north of Muskegon, MI the camp is settled on 1300 acres of land the touches, but does not include, Little Blue Lake. Each summer 5000+ students will arrive over the course of the summer to participate in a structured program that will allow them to study Music (orchestral, jazz, vocal), Dance (classical and contemporary), art (various media), acting (Shakespeare, contemporary, musical theatre), and other majors along with student options for minor courses of study.

The campus is a very fine place to enjoy a concert, a variety of which are offered throughout the summer. With a large performance area, and many smaller spaces the students will work with their respective groups to produce a performance at the end of camp. This "professional" atmosphere stretches the students to learn new music, numbers, or plays in a short time, work and rehearse with new peers and directors.
