Making pins with the HackPittsbrugh crew |
Coming all the way from Pittsburgh, PA to attend the Maker Faire Detoir, was this group of Make afficiandos who called themselves Hackpittsburgh. Normally housed in a garage in PA they came to the Faire to promote themselves (and for what else is hard to say, as it did not seem they were selling anything) and their collective.
From their website they have this to say about themselves:
HackPittsburgh is a non-profit, community-based workshop that allows members to come together and share skills & tools to pursue creative projects. Our membership is open to everyone but typically comprises inventors, engineers, scientists, programmers, hobbyists, artists, roboteers, families, entrepreneurs, and arts and crafts enthusiasts. Our focus is on collaboration, education, and community outreach. We’re a benevolent group and do not promote or condone illegal activities. The term “hacking” is used in a benign sense, in the context of deconstructing and understanding objects and systems and re-purposing existing materials for new and innovative uses.

LEDFlower and StringGirl, they promised we could take one later but we missed them |
One of the cool projects there, in addition to the button making was the LEDFlower, a simple enough construct that they were offering (to those who might be there at the end of the day) to take with them to plant and record its location on an online map. StringGirl would love to promote their mission globally. So we've tweeted out to them to see if we can get one going.
The nice people from Hackspace Pittsburgh. Smile for the camera. Thanks for the button, StringGirl wears it with pride.

Printing with Cheese |
One of the highlights of their "Yurt" was the printer that used cheese as it's medium. As far as tasteful hacking goes, this was a winner. They even encouraged participants to eat their projects.

I'm Mandy, the girl behind the button booth in your photos :) Thanks so much for the HackPittsburgh love!
I just wanted to reach out to see if you've been contacted yet about receiving an LED flower (you mention you tweeted out?) - we'd love StringGirl's help! If you haven't heard anything yet, I can get you hooked up!

Thanks for the note. Sorry I took a while to manage the moderation. Can't do it from the phone.
Got a response from @vlh said that if there were any about that I would get one, but alas that was the last of it. So if you have any handy we'd love to find homes for the flowers, and make-structions would be great too.
