Teleportation to Europe: Geocaching and Travel Bugs

With my travel schedule and caches spread in different location where I go most often, I have told others that my cache can be thought of as a travel Bug Teleporter. While TB hotels are common I think I have not yet heard of many that can propose to be transatlantic teleportation launch sites. This travel coin from the MidWestGeoBash will head to Germany soon  StringGirl and the MidWestGeoBash coin will travel together to Germany

The texture of the City: late night (early morn) at the Coney

Among the things great about living in (near) the city is texture, that is the stuff that makes cities like the "D" what they are. You never get the feel of a city just bustling about in your car from work to grocery, home to church (or what not). No, in order to get a feel for your city or any city you visit need to partake in the people. Napkin given me by Paris at the National Coney Island Go to the Coney Island (for any not from the D this is a Hot Dog joint that specializes in dogs with beef chili served with onions and mustard) for the midnight shift and see who you meet, take the bus, be downtown, talk to the people you meet. Today in the Coney, singing along to Motown I met Paris. Sitting three stools away at the counter, Paris was sketching on the back of the placemat with the kids meal crayons. He asked me if my phone had internet and suggested that I Google his handle "Parisel313". What I find is his YouTube channel featuring his drawings set to m...

The Day After skiing, Zurich Switzerland

April 13, 2013 enjoying the last day at LAAX Leaving LAAX at the end of a day of skiing, hard to believe given the weather at this elevation Flussbad Oberer Lettern is packed on this first day of real Spring weather The Olde English D in Zurich, Looking over the Zurichsee toward the mountains A large sculpture celebrating the industrial roots of Switzerland An artist was stacking the rocks artfully at the lakeshore a near impossible balancing act The swans rule the lake

Flims-Laax-Falera, Graubünden Switzerland last day of skiing for 2012-2013 season

The far shore of the Walensee area looked not so promising for skiing Leaving Zurich on an early Saturday morning to go skiing when the forecast in the city is for clouds and rain with high temperatures in the 50's F (10's Celsius) left us feeling a little foolish walking through the Hauptbahnhof with our ski gear in tow. Most others that morning had light coats and umbrellas, we had heavy jackets, ski pants, gloves and hats.  The Peaks closer to LAAX showed some potential The train ride to Canton Graubünden from Zurich took only one hour. Add 45 more minutes by Post Bus from Chur and we found that the temperatures had dropped dramatically and the peaks looked more friendlier for skiing. From the bus we boarded a large gondola up to the first peak; Crap Sogn Gion (Elev 2228 M) which took us just a few hundred meters above the frost line. Up there the snow was crisp and dry, with even some recent accumulation. http://www.laax.com/en/interactive-map/interactive-map...
